Psalm 34

he just went into art therapy class

Sam and I were in the playroom, going through games, and had settled on Chinese Checkers. It's not that we play the game, but the game items are marbles and a board with holes on it. We commenced to play barrio style marbles. Then a woman came in and invited Sam to art therapy class, where they draw lots of pictures. Sam wanted to participate. He signaled ever so gently, but when asked he nodded yes. Then another boy came in, who is about five years old and has a completely bald head. I recognized the semi-vacant look in his eyes as one that Sam often has. It all teared me up. But two things quickly stood out. Sam was very interested in the class, eager to paint. And the teacher/therapist is very good. She was gentle, tender, and that's what these little boys need in this setting. I left, with Sam fine with me going back to the room, then walked back a few minutes ago. Sam was involved like he is at Harambee Prep, comfortable, and I'm glad. It's not fun being in an institutional setting, but he's hanging in. Thanks for praying.

  • I was just getting started with this post when my three year old ran up and saw Sam's pic on the blog. He said, "Hey, where's his train?" I had to go back and find the "He Thought of This Himself" entry to satisfy him. Guess lots of people are seeing Sam here and remembering him!
